H.I.H. Princess Akiko of Mikasa is a member of the Imperial House of Japan and the elder daughter of Prince Tomohito of Mikasa and Princess Tomohito of Mikasa. She graduated from Gakushuin University in Tokyo with a bachelor’s degree in History and majored in Japanese art history at Merton College, Oxford. She received her doctorate from the University of Oxford. Her research interest is in Western collections of Japanese art and cultural exchange, and the understanding of reproduction in Japan and the West. She holds various official positions and is regularly attending official ceremonies and events and in charge of official visits.
